A Magical Week for Our Panthers! 
|
Dear Panther Families,
We have an exciting week ahead at El Portal! This Friday, our entire school will take a special walking field trip to the La Habra High School Performing Arts Center to watch our very own Panthers as they perform Disney’s Aladdin!
What makes this experience especially meaningful is that our students will have the opportunity to support their classmates and see them shine on stage. We are so proud of the hard work our young performers have put into preparing for the show, and we can’t wait to fill the theater with Panther pride!
Students will have snack before we leave campus and will begin walking at 9:30 a.m.
A few important reminders for Friday:
- All TK and Kindergarten students will be Early Birds on Friday, October 2, with school hours from 8:30 a.m.–1:40 p.m.
- Please return your child’s permission slip by Tuesday, September 29. It is very important that we receive a permission slip for every student so we can properly prepare and account for all students attending the field trip.
- Have your Panther wear El Portal spirit gear or navy blue on Friday!
It’s going to be a wonderful day of community, school spirit, and a little Disney magic!

Monday, September 28 is our Pie in the Face Challenge during Motivational Monday, where we’ll be pie’ing Mrs. Carty, Mrs. Abell, Mr. Acevedo, Miss Miramontes, Ms. Fiscus, Mrs. Guerrero & Mrs. Maleena!
Wednesday, September 30 is Pajama Day, so send those kiddos to school in their PJs!
Our Trunk or Treat and Bubble Fun Run volunteer sign-ups are LIVE—links are in our Instagram bio, and we’d love your help! Don’t forget, each bag of Trunk or Treat candy donated earns a Panther Pass, up to two passes!
And mark your calendars for our next Ditch the Kitchen at Shakey’s on Wednesday, October 7 from 5–8 PM! Shakey’s gives 20% BACK to El Portal PTA, so let’s PACK THE PLACE and make this one count!
Then it’s Harvest Hustle Fun Run on October 9 and Trunk or Treat on October 16! Can’t wait to see our Panther Community there!

Character Education at Home: Resilience → Resourcefulness
Keep Going, Find a Way!
As we begin the week, we are wrapping up our September character trait of Resilience and celebrating all the ways our Panthers have learned to keep going, bounce back, and grow through challenges.
Then, on Thursday, we welcome October and our new character trait: Resourcefulness!
Resourcefulness means using what we know, what we have, and who we can ask for help to solve problems and find a way forward. It’s the perfect next step after resilience, when something is difficult, we don’t just keep trying, we can also try a new way!
 Try It at Home!
This week, when your Panther faces a challenge, ask:
“What is another way you could solve this problem?”
Encourage them to think creatively, use the tools around them, or ask someone for help.
Resilient Panthers keep going. Resourceful Panthers find a way!

Panther Traffic Talk: Merge with Care!
Panther Families,
We need everyone’s help with an important safety concern during afternoon pick-up. As vehicles approach the crosswalk and exit area, our two pick-up lanes merge into one lane. We have had a few close calls with vehicles crossing in front of one another as they approach this area.
 Please slow down, stay in your lane, and merge with care. Avoid crossing in front of another vehicle as the two lanes come together. A few extra seconds of patience can make a big difference in keeping everyone safe.
We also ask for a little extra courtesy and patience as our traffic patterns overlap. At times, our upper-grade families are exiting while primary-grade families are entering the front pick-up line. Please allow one another space to safely enter, merge, and exit rather than trying to cross paths or move ahead.
 Remember, our crosswalk area has students, families, and staff nearby. Please approach it slowly and cautiously at all times.
Thank you for looking out for one another and helping us keep afternoon pick-up safe for all of our Panthers!
