Hello, September!

It’s hard to believe we are already heading into Week 4! Our Panthers have settled into their routines, and we’re excited for another great week of learning and fun at El Portal.

 Fun Run Kickoff!

We’ll start the week with our Fun Run Launch Assembly on Monday! Be on the lookout for more information as we kick off this fun event for our students and school community.

 Picture Day is Tuesday!

Get those smiles ready! Lifetouch Fall Picture Day is Tuesday, September 1.

 Music is in the air!

Our students will continue enjoying music opportunities throughout the week, including Music with Mr. Marrone, Recorders & Band, and Music & Movement with Miss Logan.

 Monday is Early Dismissal

Please remember that Monday, August 31 is an early dismissal day.

 Celebrate Your Child on Our Marquee! 

Want to give your child a special birthday shout-out? Families can purchase a Birthday Shout-out on the Marquee for $10 and have their child’s birthday celebrated on our school marquee! 

To purchase a birthday shout-out, simply stop by the El Portal office and see Mrs. Rickenbacker. Payment is $10 per birthday message. You can also purchase a Birthday Marquee Shout-Out online through MySchoolBucks, available from our school website.

You are welcome to stop by anytime and pay in advance to arrange your child's birthday message. If you are purchasing a shout-out for the upcoming month, payment is due by the last day of the prior month so we have time to get your message scheduled.

 September Birthdays: Since we are so close to the beginning of September, if you have a September birthday you would like us to celebrate, please stop by the office and we'll see what we can do to get your child's shout-out on the marquee!

• Harvest Hustle Fun Run Kickoff

Each month at El Portal, we focus on a character trait that helps our students grow not only as learners, but also as kind, responsible, and contributing members of our school community.

Our character trait for September is Resilience.

Resilience means learning to keep going when things are difficult, bouncing back when things don’t go as planned, and having the courage to try again. Throughout the month, we will encourage our students to remember that challenges, mistakes, and even disappointments are opportunities to learn and grow stronger.

September also gives us special opportunities to celebrate patriotism, citizenship, and community. Through our Monday morning activities, the Pledge of Allegiance, patriotic songs, student leadership, and our recognition of Patriot Day on September 11, students will learn that being a good citizen includes showing respect, helping others, working together, and persevering through challenges.

As we move through September, we look forward to helping our students discover that resilience means we may not always get it right the first time, but we can always learn, grow, and try again!
