Principal's Message

WELCOME TO THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR!! I am looking forward to a great year!

El Portal is the gateway to learning. Our school community is dedicated to the education of the 550 students from transitional kindergarten to sixth grade. We are located at 200 N. Nada Street, in the city of La Habra.

OUR SCHOOL GOAL IS THAT EVERY STUDENT, WITHOUT EXCEPTION OR EXCUSE, WILL MEET OR EXCEED STANDARDS IN READING, WRITING, AND MATH. It is the mission of El Portal School to create for our students a strong educational foundation, to encourage and develop each student’s character, along with a passion for learning, and academic excellence. We strive to develop in students a strong foundation in America’s values, traditions and heritage, and to teach our students to embrace the diversity of others on campus and in the community.

Our staff, parents, and community members work closely together to help each child reach his/her potential. Communication with home is important and we provide weekly communication folders, an automated phone message system, and school and classroom websites. Collaboration between school and home is an integral part of the success of El Portal Elementary School. We have an active PTA that meets on Wednesdays monthly. Please contact our school for exact times and dates.

We also offer an array of exciting activities to promote student learning and school spirit. Student achievement and good citizenship is also recognized on a regular basis. Our monthly CARE awards program (Character, Attitude, Responsibility, and Effort) reflects our commitment to encouraging healthy values in each child on our campus. Our STEAM Lab allows El Portal students will be engaged in hands on learning and developing a mind-set of inquiry in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. This lab gives our students the tools to help shape their lives and solve problems in different ways. All of our 2nd - 6th grade students have their own Chromebook to use in the classroom. Teachers have been working hard to incorporate technology in their lessons to help learning really come alive for our students. This is a great way for our students to experience learning that wasn't previously possible.
COLLEGE READINESS is alive on our campus as we pursue our endorsement to become a part of the No Excuses University Network. We believe that every child deserves the chance to be educated in a way that prepares them for college.
Our commitment to our students:
  • We believe that all students can achieve
  • We will collaborate as a team to help students achieve their best
  • We will continually align standards to create better results on a regular basis
  • We will use assessments and manage the data in a way that helps us create greater success in our students
  • We will pursue meaningful interventions to use with our students to ensure our students are working towards their personal best

El Portal Elementary School is the doorway to academic opportunity, with our school motto: We Believe, Achieve, and Succeed!
